The total distance of the special stages must be between 300 and 500 kms. A rally can be run on mixed surfaces, but all stages must be held on the same type of surface (mixed stages are now forbidden). More than 80 kms of stages between two service halts is not allowed.

Shakedown

WRC3-ShakedownThe shakedown also helps to decide the starting order of the first stage on snow and gravel. First of all, the crews can cover the stage twice in free practice. Then each car sets off for a timed run in the championship order. The drivers can then choose their starting order for the first section, the quickest being the first to choose and so on. The cars are placed in parc fermé after the qualifying shakedown.

In tarmac rallies each crew must cover the stage four times minimum.

Stages

Then the P1 and P2 priority drivers start in the reverse order of the general classification of the previous section.

There are two-minute minimum intervals between starts. The stages are timed to a tenth of a second. A standing start is given while the finish is a flying one. The penalty for jumping the start is 10s.
